While summer 2020 has been unpredictable due to COVID-19, the downtime for businesses and organizations has provided an ideal window of opportunity for updating access solutions.
Maintaining access for all is not only required to stay compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, but it’s also necessary to ensure customers, staff, visitors, etc. of all abilities can safely enter the establishment. Take a look at what we can do for your facility by checking out these commercial access solutions from projects all over the country.
State Housing Unit
Challenge:
The tenant that lives in this Rhode Island housing unit uses a mobility scooter and needed a solution that would allow him to safely get in and out of his home. Since the unit’s entrance is elevated and used every day as the primary point of entry, the state of Rhode Island needed to provide him with a durable access solution that was safe and easy to navigate with his scooter. While this is a residential space, it’s owned by the state, which means it also needs to follow ADA compliance standards and local codes like all commercial projects.
Solution:
In order to achieve a safe ramp slope while not blocking the entrance to another unit, a compact turn back configuration was the perfect solution for the tenant. In order to do this, one platform is used immediately outside of the entrance and another platform is used halfway through the ramp to allow it to turn in the opposite direction. Hence why we call this a turn back!
Military Base
Challenge:
A new modular building at this military base had an entrance that was set off the ground, which meant the building needed an access solution for individuals to enter and exit the building.
Solution:
We at EZ-ACCESS encounter this type of challenge on a daily basis, so the solution is straightforward. We provided the military base with a simple straight ramp run with a platform at the top for a safe, easy way to enter and exit.
Casino
Challenge:
This Casino had the goal of providing “access for all.” They knew that the more accessible entrances they have, the more individuals they can welcome through each of their doors. The entrance that was their primary concern was a secondary entrance located in a parking garage that has a set of concrete stairs to enter the building.
Solution:
To allow “access for all” at this entrance, we installed a turn back ramp system adjacent to the concrete stairs. Utilizing this type of configuration saved space and prevented the ramp from impeding on the parking area and allowed for continued use of the concrete stairs for those without limited mobility.
Baseball Stadium
Challenge:
This college baseball stadium needed an accessible route for individuals of all abilities to easily reach the stands and enjoy the game. Once in the stands, there was already accessible seating on the first level, so the only
Solution:
The ramp was installed directly over the existing concrete stairs and is perfectly flush with the first level of the stands for seamless use and it fits perfectly between each side of the stands.
Portable Classroom
Challenge:
This school is located in the Pacific Northwest where some building materials, such as wood, don’t hold up as well due to the wet environment. The old wood ramp and stairs that once provided students and staff access to this classroom was no longer safe as it was beginning to deteriorate. They were in need of a replacement solution that would stand up to the elements for years to come.
Solution:
The wood ramp and stairs were removed and the portable classroom received a replacement aluminum ramp that incorporated a few platforms and a set of sturdy, aluminum stairs. The portable classroom wasn’t set too far off the ground, there weren't any obstacles that had to be taken into consideration, and the two entrances were close to each other, making this project as simple as can be. A straight ramp run with platforms at the doors and a set of stairs was all that was needed.
