It’s time to be honest, getting around the bathroom may not be as easy as it once was.
We get it, it’s not always comfortable to talk about bathroom assistance, but EZ-ACCESS is here to help break the stigma and provide practical solutions. By truly understanding the need for safe, convenient bathroom accessibility, we can work together to help avoid injuries from potential falls, prevent embarrassment from getting stuck or needing help maneuvering, and make these cumbersome tasks easier for both user and caregiver.
How to Make Bathroom Accessibility Simpler
You’re Not Alone
Did you know that one in four individuals aged 65+ falls every year in the United States? If you or a loved one are recovering from surgery, struggle with balance, or lack the strength you once had, it’s likely that you also have difficulty with common tasks in the bathroom.
Most tasks we hear individuals struggle with include:
Moving around the bathroom to find supplies (shampoo, body wash, etc.)
Sitting down and standing up from the toilet
Mobility while bathing
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) says it best, “Falls threaten seniors’ safety and independence and generate enormous economic and personal costs.”
Here are a few quick facts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to show just how common falls are:
- Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall.
- Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults.
- Falls result in more than 2.8 million injuries treated in emergency departments annually, including over 800,000 hospitalizations and more than 27,000 deaths.
- In 2015, the total cost of fall injuries was $50 billion.
- The financial toll for older adult falls is expected to increase as the population ages and may reach $67.7 billion by this year.
Easy Ways to Prevent Bathroom Falls
Regardless of your abilities, there is a higher chance of getting injured in the bathroom than anywhere else in the home, as we see in the stats above. With slippery surfaces and so many obstacles in such a small space, it’s important for seniors to invest in bathroom safety solutions if they choose to age in place.
Here are a few key solutions that will assist individuals and their caregivers:
TILT® Toilet Incline Lift
For this toileting aid, the purpose is in the name! The TILT lifts to your natural body movement, providing the independence needed to maintain dignity in the bathroom. The handheld control allows the user to adjust the incline of the toilet seat to your ability (balance and strength) when sitting down or standing up. This gives the user more of a choice when it comes to how much assistance they receive when using the toilet.

EZ-BATHE® Body Washing Basin
This inflatable bathtub provides a much safer experience for an individual and their caregiver. You can inflate the bathtub around the individual right on their bed to avoid transferring them to the bathroom and maneuvering on the slick surfaces and tight spaces in the bathroom.

EZ-SHAMPOO® Hair Washing Basin
Similar to the body washing basin, the hair washing basin allows users to stay in the comfort of their bed while getting their hair washed. The user simply lays on the bed and their head is held up by the supportive cushions of the basin. This creates a safer and more comfortable environment for both the user and caregiver.
